Greenville, ME Basement Receives Much Needed Waterproofing
Challenge
A wet basement was beginning to bother a couple in Greenville, ME. The dampness wasn’t much of a problem at first, but when it started to smell, it was a daily struggle. To have the problem dealt with, they came to TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived, their first order of business was to find where the water was coming in through. This turned out to be the foundation itself, which can be next to impossible for any typical homeowner to stop. We then installed WaterGuard piping underneath the surface of the perimeter of the basement floor. These pipes are covered over with a fresh layer of cement to conceal them without hindering their function. They will capture any moisture traveling through the foundation, never allowing this water to reach the surface. The trapped water is then guided to the sump for removal.
To assist the sump in the removal of the water being passed to it by the WaterGuard, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump can move 2,650 gallons of water per hour, which should be more than enough to keep this basement water-free. The SuperSump forces the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This line also serves a function in keeping the basement dry. On the exterior of the home, we attached an IceGuard section to the line. This piece of pipe has holes in it which don’t affect the normal water flow. But if the pipe becomes clogged, the IceGuard lets the trapped water escape before it backs up and overflows the sump. The line was then ended with a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water is let out back onto the ground a safe distance from the home where it will never bother the homeowners again.
With their new basement system in place, these homeowners can rest assured their basement will remain dry. The WaterGuard piping coupled with a SuperSump is an extremely powerful combination!
