WaterGuard Creates Dry Basement For Hiram, ME Home
Challenge
A damp basement is a disturbance to most homeowners. For this homeowner in Hiram, ME, visiting their wet basement was a daily problem. To get this problem finally taken care of, they contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
To begin the waterproofing of this basement, we first needed to identify where the water was entering through. After locating the source of the dampness, we got started. With water entering directly through the foundation, we needed to install WaterGuard piping. These pipes are buried around the perimeter of the floor, under a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard captures the moisture traveling through the foundation, trapping it before it reaches the surface. This trapped water is then guided through the pipes to the sump for removal.
These pipes will increase the amount of water gathering in the sump, and this sump would need a pump to compensate for the increase. We installed a SuperSump to handle this. The SuperSump can move 2,650 gallons of water per hour. This water is evacuated through a PVC discharge line that exits the home. An added safety measure, an IceGuard, is attached to the exterior of the home on the discharge line. The IceGuard is built with holes to allow for trapped water to escape. This prevents an overflow if a clog blocks the pipe. We then ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point, where the water is let out onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner no longer needs to dread a trip to their basement. They now own a dry basement they can be proud of.
