WaterGuard Dries And Maintains Healthy Newcastle, ME Basement
Challenge
No homeowner wants a wet basement, and for this homeowner in Newcastle, ME, that’s exactly what they’d been putting up with for several months. Finally, having had enough, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to have their basement properly waterproofed.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they determined the source of the water. When it would rain hard enough, the water gathering in the soil would build up pressure. This pressure would eventually force the moisture in directly through the concrete foundation, which makes it very difficult for any typical homeowner to prevent. Our crew dug a trench, and installed our WaterGuard piping around the perimeter of the basement floor. This was then capped with a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard pipes capture the moisture as it travels through the foundation, trapping it before it can reach the surface.
The water captured within the WaterGuard is then guided to the sump where it is deposited into the SuperSump sump pump we installed. This pump can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour, which is sent out through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump was then given an UltraSump backup battery attachment to keep it running through the heaviest storms. With the UltraSump, if the power were to go out in the home, the pumping would continue for up to 11,000 gallons of water. Which should be more than enough to keep this basement dry.
Finally, on the exterior of the home, we made a few adjustments to the discharge line. The first was the IceGuard pipe segment added just outside the home. The IceGuard is built with angles holes that don’t affect water as it exits the home. But if the pipe becomes clogged, the trapped water can escape through these holes without overflowing the sump. The line was then capped with a LawnScape discharge point where the water exits the line. The water is let out onto the ground far enough away from the home where it will no longer be able to reach the home.
This homeowner can now utilize their basement for any range of purposes without fearing water damage. Their new basement system will keep their basement dry for years to come!
