Gouldsboro, ME Basement Receives Fully Automated Basement System
Challenge
A leaking basement was causing this Gouldsboro, ME homeowner trouble. Worried the water would soon begin to damage their home and belongings, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to take care of the issue.
Solution
Upon arriving at the home, we needed to identify the main entry point of the water to best determine how to fix the problem. Since the water was entering through the foundation itself, we needed to stop it before it reached the surface. To do this, we installed WaterGuard piping just under the surface of the perimeter of the floor. These pipes capture the water as it travels through the concrete, guiding it away before it reaches the surface. This water is then guided to the sump for removal.
Since the sump in this home didn’t contain a pump, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump to handle the removal of the water. This device contains three individual pumps, which activate at different times. The primary pump handles the bulk of the water. The secondary pump will turn on if the primary cannot keep up the amount of water, keeping the sump from overflowing. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This pump will keep the basement water-free even if the home loses power. The water leaving this sump now exits through a PVC discharge line.
Now that the water coming through the foundation has been dealt with, it was time to take care of the moisture in the air. We installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to cycle through the air, drying it out and circulating dry air. Moving outside the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe segment to the discharge line. This special piece is built with holes to allow for any blocked water to escape. This prevents a backup in the sump, that would have resulted in an overflow. The line was then capped with a LawnScape discharge point to finish the job. This is where the water is finally released back onto the ground, a safe distance from the home.
This homeowner no longer worries during a rainstorm. Their new basement system will be more than enough to keep their basement dry and healthy for years to come!
