WaterGuard Keeps Buckfield, ME Basement Dry For Storage Use
Challenge
A wet basement can be a problem for any homeowner, especially when that homeowner needs the space for storage or other uses. The water entering this Buckfield, ME home was preventing the homeowner from using it for storage. To have this problem addressed properly, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
After we arrived at the home, our first order of business was identifying the main cause of the moisture problem. In this case, as with many other homes, the water was entering through the concrete foundation. Water can slip through concrete when the hydrostatic pressure in the surrounding soil builds up enough. To stop this leakage, we buried 107 feet of WaterGuard piping around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. The WaterGuard pipes capture water as it travels through the concrete, never allowing it to reach the surface. This water is then guided to the sump for removal.
To handle the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the basement floor. This takes the water from the WaterGuard and forces it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump will be able to take on almost any storm, with a pumping force of over 2,600 gallons of water per hour. To help the sump continue operation, we attached an IceGuard piping section onto the discharge line just outside the home. This section is built with holes that don’t normally affect water flow. But in the event of a blockage, the water can escape the pipe, instead of causing an overflow in the sump. Finally, the line was ended with a LawnScape discharge point and we were done.
Now this basement is properly waterproofed, safe from any water in the surrounding soil. This homeowner can now use the space however they please without fear of water damage.
