WaterGuard Keeps Flooding Albion, ME Basement Dry
Challenge
Plagued by a lasting wet basement, this Albion, ME homeowner needed a long-term fix. After dealing with the problem on their own for too long, they wanted a system in place to remove the water for them. In order to achieve this, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Upon arriving at the home, our crew needed to determine the proper waterproofing methods required to keep this basement dry. To do so, we needed to find where the majority of the water was entering through. With the main entry-point being the foundation itself, we needed to install WaterGuard piping to stop it. Once we laid these pipes in a trench around the perimeter of the basement floor, they were covered over with cement. These special pipes capture water traveling through the foundation, holding it back from ever reaching the surface. This water is then guided to the sump for removal.
To help the sump keep up with the now increased flow of water, it was going to need a pump. We installed a SuperSump sump pump to handle this. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour out of the home through the PVC discharge line. This should be more than enough power to keep any typical rain storm at bay. Next, to keep the moisture out of the air, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This device will take in moist air, and output dry air, passing the removed moisture off to the sump for extraction. This continue to cycle air until the atmosphere is healthy.
Finally, outside the home, our crew had a couple more additions to make to the discharge line to complete the project. The first of these was the IceGuard pipe section. This is a special piece of pipe with built in holes that do not normally affect the flow of the water. If a blockage occurs, however, the trapped water can escape through these holes. This protects the SuperSump from backing up and overflowing. The line was then finished with a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water is let out back onto the ground, a safe distance from the home. No water exiting here will be able to make it back to the home to cause any further problems.
With their new basement systems in place, this homeowner can now sit through a rain storm without lifting a finger. Their days of manual water removal are over!
