Dirt Basement In Unity, ME Sealed Off From The Elements
Challenge
A homeowner with a dirt basement floor was in desperate need of waterproofing. To get the job done they contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems. After they had heard about us, they knew we were the right company for the job.
Solution
To begin this waterproofing, our crew needed to give the basement a proper floor. We did this by laying a fresh slab of concrete on top of the dirt. This would give the basement a floor, which would help to keep the water at bay. However, concrete is not a perfect barrier for keeping out moisture. If rain water builds up in the surrounding soil, this builds up what is known as hydrostatic pressure. This pressure can force small particles of moisture through the concrete, dampening the basement in the process. Luckily for this homeowner, TC Hafford has just the right product to prevent this.
Around the perimeter of the slab, we installed our WaterGuard piping. These pipes rest just underneath the surface of the floor. Whenever water is working its way through the concrete, the WaterGuard will capture this water and prevent it from reaching the surface. This water is then guided to the sump. To help the sump remove the now increased amounts of water, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour. This water is forced up and out of the basement through a PVC discharge line, where it is carried a distance from the home. The water is then released onto the ground where it will not be able to reach the home again.
Now with a proper floor and a basement waterproofing system in place, this homeowner is now the proud owner of a dry basement. The days of a flooding dirt basement are over for this home.
