Leaking Orland, ME Basement Receives Proper Waterproofing.
Challenge
A crack in the wall and a leaking foundation were causing this Orland, ME basement to gather water during rainfall. This was a huge problem for the homeowner, and they needed it fixed ASAP. The homeowner soon contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems and arranged to have their basement fully waterproofed.
Solution
The first thing our crew needed to do once arriving at the basement was to stop the leaking. To seal the crack in the wall, we injected Polyurethane, which filled the crack and hardened to lock out moisture. Once that was done, our crew dug out a trench in the basement floor, running along the walls. This trench is where we installed a WaterGuard piping system. The WaterGuard was then covered with a fresh coat of cement to conceal it. The WaterGuard works within the concrete to capture the moisture before it can reach the surface of the floor. This captured water is then guided to the sump for removal.
To keep the sump pumping through any conditions, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device contains three pumps, each activating at different times. The primary and secondary pumps will handle the removal of the bulk of the water, however, the secondary pump will only start pumping if the first pump can’t handle the water or fails for some reason. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump for when the home loses power. The TripleSafe will ensure the basement is water-free, even on the roughest conditions.
The water being removed from the home exits through a PVC discharge line. On the exterior of the home, we made some additions to this line to complete the project. First, we attached an IceGuard piece which has built in holes. These holes don’t affect the normal water flow, but will allow any water trapped in the pipe to escape. This prevents the TripleSafe from overflowing if ice or other debris blocks the line. We then capped the line with a LawnScape discharge point and we were done. The LawnScape is where the water is let back outside onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
With these systems in place and working together, this homeowner can rest assured their days of owning a flooding basement are over!
