WaterGuard Keeps Limestone, ME Basement Safe From Flooding
Challenge
No homeowner wants to deal with a wet basement. The unpleasant smell coupled with the potential for water damage is never welcomed. This homeowner in Limestone, ME wanted to rid themselves of their wet basement, and to do that, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The water leaking into this basement was coming in directly through the concrete foundation. This is a difficult entry point for any homeowner to deal with, but luckily TC Hafford has just the fix! We began by digging a shallow trench around the floor of the basement along the walls. This is where we laid our WaterGuard piping which was then covered with a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard captures any moisture within the concrete, never allowing it to reach the surface; Carrying it away to the sump for removal before it has the chance to negatively affect the basement.
To help the sump keep up with the increased flow of water, we installed a SuperSump sump pump along with an UltraSump backup battery. The SuperSump handles the removal of the water. This device can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour, plenty of power to keep this basement water-free. The UltraSump holds a charge to keep the SuperSump going even if the home loses power. The UltraSump can give the SuperSump 11,000 gallons worth of power before it needs a charge. The water exits the home through a PVC discharge line. On the outside of the home, the water passes through a section of pipe known as an IceGuard. This piece has holes built into it to allow for water to escape should a blockage occur. This prevents an overflow in the sump which would flood the basement.
Now with their new basement system in place, this homeowner no longer needs to worry about the fears of a flooding basement. No more water will gather on this basement floor!
