WaterGuard Protects Whitefield, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
Suffering from a flooding basement, this Whitefield homeowner was in desperate need of basement waterproofing. Unable to get the job done themselves, they soon called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The water leaking into this basement was mostly entering through the foundation. While this is an extremely difficult leak for any typical homeowner to deal with, TC Hafford is very well equipped for such a leak. To prevent further leakage from the foundation, we began by digging up a trench around the perimeter of the floor. This is where we installed our WaterGuard piping, which was then covered with a fresh coat of cement. The WaterGuard operated underneath the surface of the floor, capturing the water before it reaches the surface. This keeps the floor dry, without leaving any visible piping laying around the basement floor.
The newly captured water is guided by the WaterGuard to the sump for extraction. There will be more water gathered in the sump now than there was previously, and to keep up with this, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour, which it forces out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This is more than enough power to keep any home water free for a very long time. It would take an exceptionally powerful storm to overpower this sump now.
The SuperSump can handle a large amount of water, but it is not perfect. If ice or other debris were to block the piping outside the home, the water would backup into the pump and overflow into the basement. To combat this, we attached an IceGuard section to the discharge line outside the home. This pipe section has built in holes which allow for any trapped water to escape without affecting the sump negatively. Finally, we finished the line with a LawnScape discharge point on the end and we were done. The water exits the line through the LawnScape where it is far enough from the home to never be able to reach the basement again.
The days of this homeowner dealing with a damp basement are over. Their new basement system will keep the space dry even in the heaviest storms.
