New Basement System Allows Leeds, ME Homeowner To Finish Basement
Challenge
Looking to finish their basement, this homeowner in Leeds, ME was having trouble making progress. Their basement would regularly become damp whenever it would rain, and this would cause serious problems if the homeowner finished the basement in these conditions. To rid themselves of their moisture troubles, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The water entering this basement was entering directly through the foundation itself. This makes it nearly impossible for any homeowner to deal with the problem themselves. Luckily for this homeowner, TC Hafford has just the fix! We began the waterproofing by excavating the inside perimeter of the basement floor along the walls. This enabled us to bury our WaterGuard piping underneath a fresh layer of cement just below the surface. The WaterGuard does exactly as the name suggests, it protects the basement from incoming moisture. These pipes capture the water as it travels through the concrete, never allowing it to reach the surface.
Next, we moved on to the sump because it was going to need an upgrade. The current sump within the space would likely not be able to properly remove the increased flow of water coming from the WaterGuard piping. To remedy this, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe contains three pumps, which should be plenty of power to keep the water out. The primary and secondary pumps handle the majority of the water; Where the secondary pump only kicks in when the primary fails to handle the entirety of the water for any reason. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This will keep the water flowing even if the home loses power.
The water being pumped out by the TripleSafe exits through a PVC discharge line. After this line exits the home, we attached an IceGuard section to help keep the water removal process flowing smoothly. The IceGuard, with built in holes, is a safety measure to keep the sump from overflowing. If any debris blocks the pipes, the holes will allow the trapped water to escape. Our crew then ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits the line here out onto the ground, a safe distance from the home.
Now this homeowner can finish their basement whenever they please. Their new basement system will ensure no water damage is inflicted upon any furniture installed in the space.
