WaterGuard Enables Rollinsford, NH Basement To Be Finished

Challenge

Looking to finish their basement, a homeowner in Rollinsford, NH needed a way to keep the water out. They had been having issues with moisture gathering on their floor and they were worried this would negatively affect their finished basement. To waterproof the space for their future use, they contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

To start this job, we needed to locate the primary entry point of the water. This turned out to be tiny holes in the foundation itself. In many cases, the hydrostatic pressure in the surrounding soil can force water in through these holes and cracks. To stop this moisture in its tracks we dug a trench around the floor. We laid a WaterGuard piping system within this trench and sealed it in with a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard pipes capture moisture traveling through concrete, never allowing it to reach the surface. Maintaining a dry floor will keep any furniture placed in this basement safe from water damage.

The WaterGuard then guides the water to the sump for removal. Now that there will be more water than usual in the sump, it was going to need an upgrade. We installed a TripleSafe sump pump in the spot to do exactly that. The TripleSafe is composed of three pumps, each to help keep the basement water free at all times. The primary pump removes the bulk of the water. The secondary is also used for the bulk of the water, but it will only activate if the primary fails or cannot handle all of the water. The third and final pump is a battery-operated backup pump which will take up the water if and when the home loses power.

The TripleSafe forces the water out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Following this line outside, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece to it just outside the home. This section of piping is built with holes in it. These holes allow water trapped by a blockage to escape without overflowing the sump. We then ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point and we were done. The LawnScape lets the water out onto the ground a safe distance from the home.

Now this homeowner can finish their basement without fear of water damage. Their new basement system will keep their basement dry enough for carpeting and whatever furniture they please.
