WaterGuard Keeps Mexico, ME Safe From Flooding
Challenge
A flooding basement plagued this Mexico, ME basement. Seeking professional help, the homeowner contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems. After being unable to stop the leak themselves, TC Hafford had just the fix to keep this homeowner’s basement dry!
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they needed to determine the primary source of the moisture gathering within the space. After a quick investigation, we found the foundation itself was allowing water through, when the hydrostatic pressure in the surrounding soil was high enough. This forces moisture through the smallest cracks and holes in the concrete. To stop this, we buried our special WaterGuard piping just underneath the inside perimeter of the basement floor. These pipe, resting under a fresh coat of concrete, will take in any moisture trying to travel through the foundation. The trapped water is then guided away to the sump for removal.
With the increased amount of water gathering in the sump, it was going to need an upgrade. Our crew installed a SuperSump within the sump to handle the newly increased flow of water coming from the WaterGuard. This pump can force over 2,600 gallons of water per hour out of the home through the PVC discharge line. To keep the sump functioning in any weather, outside the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe section to this line. In the event of a blockage in the piping, the IceGuard will allow any trapped water to escape through holes built into it. This prevents a backup in the sump. We then finished the line with a LawnScape discharge point and we were done. The LawnScape is far enough from the home where the discharged water will no longer be able to reach the home to attempt to flood the basement again.
This homeowner now sits comfortably through rain storms, knowing their basement system will keep their property dry. Thanks to the WaterGuard piping, this basement won’t experience any more flooding!
