WaterGuard Finally Waterproofs Harrison, ME Basement
Challenge
This Harrison, ME homeowner was struggling with a wet basement. They had tried time and time again to keep the water out, to no avail. Tired of trying without success, they contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems to finally get the basement waterproofed properly!
Solution
Once our crew arrived on the scene, their first objective was to identify the main entry point of the water. This turned out to be the foundation itself, allowing the water to pass through into the basement when the hydrostatic pressure in the soil was high enough. To combat this, we needed to install our WaterGuard piping system. These pipes are installed just underneath the surface of the floor, surrounding the basement. These special pipes capture the moisture passing through the concrete, never allowing it to reach the surface. The WaterGuard pipes are buried under a fresh layer of cement to conceal them while still allowing them to fully function.
The WaterGuard piping connects to the sump in the basement, where it guides all of the collected water to. Within this sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. With an increased amount of water being passed to the sump, it needed more power to keep up. This pump can output over 2,600 gallons of water per hour, more than enough to keep up with a typical Maine storm. We then attached an UltraSump backup battery to the SuperSump to keep it operating even under extreme conditions. The UltraSump will keep the SuperSump pumping for up to 11,000 gallons before needing another charge. This is sure to keep the basement water free, even when the storms are intense enough to knock out the power in the home.
This new basement system will help maintain a dry basement for this homeowner for years to come. They will no longer need to stress about a rain storm on the horizon.
