WaterGuard Keeps Farmingdale, ME Basement Water-Free
Challenge
This home in Farmingdale, ME was experiencing troubles with water in their basement. They were unsure how the water was entering, but knew they needed something done about it. Seeking professional assistance, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once we got to the home and identified the problem, we were able to do something about this water problem. We began by digging a trench around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. This enabled us to lay down our WaterGuard piping just under the surface of the floor, burying it beneath fresh cement. We buried these pipes because the moisture entering this basement was mainly coming in right through the concrete. These special WaterGuard pipes capture this moisture before it reaches the surface, guiding it to the sump for removal before it can cause any issues.
The sump already existing in this basement would not be enough to handle the newly increased amount of water being brought to it. To help the sump, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe is a unique sump pump that contains three pumps within it. The primary and secondary handle the bulk of the water, the secondary only activating when the primary can’t fully handle the load. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This third pump will only turn on when the home is without power, maintain a dry basement even in heavy storms. The water is pushed out of the basement through a PVC discharge line.
This line also serves a purpose on the exterior of the home, helping to maintain a dry basement. As the water follows this pipe outside, it passes through a section known as an IceGuard. The IceGuard is a piece with holes built in, that allows normal water flow. It is not until that a blockage occurs in the pipe that the water is able to escape the line through these holes, preventing an overflow in the sump. The line was then fitted with a LawnScape end point and we were done. The LawnScape is the final stop for the water, where it is let back out into the soil a safe distance from the home.
This homeowner no longer needs to deal with a damp basement with their new basement system in place. The WaterGuard is sure to keep this basement water-free for years to come!
