WaterGuard Protects Calais, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
This homeowner in Calais, ME was suffering from a wet basement. The moisture would build up after rainfall, and the homeowner feared water damage to their property. To prevent further moisture build up, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to have their basement waterproofed once and for all.
Solution
Once we arrived at the home, we began identifying the problem. Moisture would enter this basement through tiny cracks and holes in the concrete, too small to see. This occurs when the water pressure in the surrounding soil, or hydrostatic pressure, is strong enough to force the water through. To stop this water before it can reach the basement, we installed our WaterGuard piping surrounding the basement floor. These pipes capture the moisture transitioning through the concrete, guiding it to the sump for removal.
With this increased flow of water to the sump, it was going to need an upgrade in order to keep up. This is why we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour out through the PVC discharge line. This water passes through the IceGuard pipe section once outside the home. The IceGuard allows the water to escape if ice or other debris blocks the lower end of the pipe. We finished this job by adding a LawnScape piece. This is where the water is discharged out onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
Now this homeowner no longer needs to worry when rain falls. Their new basement system will keep their belongings safe from water damage for years to come!
