Boothbay, ME Basement Waterproofed Properly With WaterGuard
Challenge
A leaking basement can be a struggle for any homeowner to deal with. When the water is leaking in through the foundation itself, however, that is a whole different beast. That was the exact problem this Boothbay, ME couple was experiencing. They called TC Hafford Basement Systems and we were on the case!
Solution
With the water entering through the concrete itself, we needed to stop it before it could reach the surface of the basement floor. To achieve this, we dug out a trench around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. This enabled us to lay down our WaterGuard piping around the basement floor, just under the surface. These pipes are then covered over with a fresh layer of cement to conceal them without hindering their function. The WaterGuard pipes capture water as it travels through the concrete, never allowing it to reach the floor surface.
The captured water is then guided to the sump where it will be removed from the basement. The sump already existing in this floor had no pump to assist with removal. We installed a SuperSump within the sump to help the sump keep up with the increased water flow from the WaterGuard. The SuperSump is a device capable of pushing over 2,600 gallons of water per hour out of the home through the PVC discharge line. This should be plenty of power to keep up with the rain water leaking in from the surrounding soil.
Moving outside the home, we needed to make a few additions to the discharge line. Once the line leaves the home, we had installed a section of piping known as an IceGuard. This piece does not prevent ice from forming, but protects the sump from ice or other debris clogging the line. If something is blocking the water, the IceGuard allows the trapped water to escape through holes built right into the pipe. This will prevent the sump from backing up and overflowing. The line was then capped off with a LawnScape discharge point, and we were done.
This couple can now use their basement however they please without needing to fear any sort of water related troubles. Their new WaterGuard piping system will keep their basement dry for years to come.
