WaterGuard Helps Waterproof Newport, ME Basement
Challenge
A wet basement can be a challenge for any homeowner. After unsuccessfully trying to maintain a dry basement, this Newport, ME homeowner gave TC Hafford Basement Systems a call to finally get their basement waterproofed properly.
Solution
The major issue with this basement was that the water in the surrounding soil was able to leak in through the concrete itself. This occurs when the hydrostatic pressure in the soil builds up enough force to be able to force moisture in through the tiny holes and cracks in the concrete. To stop the water from entering this basement, we installed 175 feet of WaterGuard piping around the inside perimeter of the floor. This piping is buried just underneath the surface of the floor, beneath a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard piping will capture the moisture as it travels through the concrete, never allowing it to reach the surface.
The captured water is guided to the sump within the basement, where we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump is able to move 2,650 gallons of water per hour. This water is evacuated through a PVC discharge line. To help maintain a dry space, we then installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. While the WaterGuard pulls the moisture out of the floor, the SaniDry pulls the moisture out of the air. This moisture is then passed on to the sump for removal. The SaniDry will keep the air in the basement dry and healthy.
The water being pumped out of the home passes through an IceGuard as it exits the home. The IceGuard is a special pipe piece which has holes built into it. These holes are aligned in such a way that the water flows normally when nothing is wrong. But if a blockage occurs lower in the pipe, the water can escape through these holes, without backing up and overflowing the sump. Finally, we attached a LawnScape onto the end of the line. This point is where the water is let out back onto the ground. This is installed far enough from the home where the water won’t be able to travels back to the basemen.
With a proper basement system in place, this homeowner’s struggle to obtain a dry basement has come to an end. The WaterGuard will be sure to keep this basement water-free for years to come!
