Milton, NH Basement Properly Waterproofed With WaterGuard
Challenge
Living with a wet basement, Pat needed a way to put an end to the problem. After reviewing their options, they decided TC Hafford Basement Systems was the best choice.
Solution
To help Pat waterproof their basement, we needed to identify the main entry point for the moisture. This turned out to be the foundation itself. After enough rain fell around the home, the water pressure in the soil was enough to force moisture in through tiny cracks and holes in the concrete. To prevent this, we installed 126 feet of WaterGuard piping underneath the surface of the basement floor. These pipes line the inside perimeter, capturing the moisture as it travels through the concrete. This water is then directed to the sump for removal, before it is ever able to reach the surface.
To allow the sump to handle the water being passed to it, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This sump contains three pumps, which each server a function in maintaining a dry basement under different conditions. The primary pump will remove the bulk of the water. The secondary pump will only activate if the primary cannot handle the amount of water for any reason, assisting with the load. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This will keep removing water even when the home loses power. The water is pumped out through a PVC discharge line.
Following this discharge line outside, we needed to add a few pieces to complete this project. As soon as the line exits the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece. This section of pipe has special holes built into it. These holes don’t normally affect the water flow, until a blockage occurs in the pipe. Then the trapped water is allowed to escape. This prevents the sump from overflowing. Finally, we capped the end of the line with a LawnScape discharge point, where the water exits onto the ground.
With their newly waterproofed basement, Pat can rest assured moisture build up will no longer happen within their basement.
