Camden, ME Basement Kept Dry With WaterGuard
Challenge
Having been living with a wet basement for so long, this couple in Camden, ME were used to the dampness. But they had finally had enough! After hearing about TC Hafford Basement Systems, the homeowners knew we were the right company for the job!
Solution
To begin this project, we needed to identify the cause of the water problem. In this particular basement, the moisture was coming in through the foundation itself. When rainwater builds up enough in the surrounding soil, it runs out of places to go. Then when new rain falls, the existing water is forced in through the concrete. To prevent this, we installed our WaterGuard piping system around the inside perimeter of the basement. The WaterGurd will capture the transitioning water, never allowing it to reach the surface. The water is then guided to the sump for removal.
To help the sump maintain a steady flow of water, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump is capable of forcing over 2,600 gallons of water up and out of the basement per hour. The water exits the basement through a PVC discharge line. To keep the SuperSump operating under even the heaviest rainfalls, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This battery will give the SuperSump an extra 11,000 gallons worth of pumping even after losing power from the home. Finally, to prevent an overflow in the sump, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece onto the discharge line outside the home. The IceGuard allows the water to exit the pipe if the lower end becomes blocked by ice or other debris.
Now with a fully-functioning basement system in place, this Camden, ME couple will no longer need to suffer through having a wet basement. Even in the heaviest rains, this basement will now remain dry!
