WaterGuard & SuperSump Keep Harpswell, ME Basement Dry
Challenge
The water leaking into Glenice’s basement was starting to look like it would begin to cause permanent damage to the home. To prevent this from happening, Glenice contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew got to work, they knew we were dealing with a leaking foundation. We have a relatively simple fix for this, running some special piping around the perimeter of the floor. We began by digging a trench into the concrete, then we were able to lay, and cover the pipe. Once in place, the WaterGuard piping captures moisture within the concrete, never allowing it to reach the surface of the floor. This captured water is then guided to the sump for removal.
Even though there was a sump already in the basement, we needed a little more power to help with the water removal. To handle this, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump boasts a water removal force of 2,650 gallons of water per hour! This will ensure almost any amount of rain will be evacuated without fail. Next, we attached an UltraSump backup battery to the SuperSump. This will keep it pumping for up to 11,000 gallons if the power to the home is lost. These two devices will easily take care of the water being captured by the WaterGuard.
Now that the moisture within the foundation has been dealt with, we needed to remove the moisture from the air. To do so, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This device pulls the moisture out of the atmosphere in the basement, feeding the collected water to the sump for removal. The water leaving through the sump exits via a PVC discharge line. This line passes through an IceGuard pipe piece once outside the home. This piece is built with holes to allow any trapped water to escape in the event of a blockage. Finally, the line was capped off with a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water is released back out into the earth.
Now Glenice can sit through a rain storm with peace of mind, knowing her basement is safe from flooding or water damage. The WaterGuard pipes combined with the SuperSump will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
