Leaking Rumford, ME Basement Fixed With WaterGuard

Challenge

Water can leak into a basement through a number of ways. This Rumford, ME homeowner had water leaking in directly through the foundation and had no way to stop it himself. To correct the problem before sustaining any water damage, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

To prevent future leaks through the floor of the basement, we needed to excavate a layer of concrete to form a trench around the perimeter of the floor. We then laid 156 feet of WaterGuard piping within this trench. After covering the WaterGuard with loose rocks and fresh cement, it was ready to operate. The WaterGuard pips capture moisture as it transitions through the concrete, never allowing it to reach the surface.

The water captured by the WaterGuard is passed to the sump in the basement for removal. To keep this sump removing water in almost any weather, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This special device contains three pumps, to keep water out. The primary pump handles the majority of water trying to flood the basement. The secondary pump kicks in if the primary is unable to handle the load or fails for any reason. The third pump is the battery-operated backup pump. This pump will turn on if and when the home loses power, to remove water even in the heaviest of storms.

The water being removed by the TripleSafe exits through a PVC discharge line, which also serves a function in the removal process. Immediately as the line exits the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece to keep water flowing. This special piece is built with holes, which only let water escape if the pipe becomes blocked. This protects the TripleSafe from backing up due to a clog. Finally, we capped the line with a LawnScape discharge point and we were done. This is where the water is released a safe distance from the home.

Now this Rumford homeowner can rest assured their basement will no longer experience any moisture problems. Thanks to the WaterGuard piping system, no rainwater will damage this basement.
