WaterGuard & BrightWall Keep Old Town, ME Basement Dry
Challenge
A homeowner in Old Town, ME was troubled by a wet basement. Rainwater was leaking in through the floor and the walls of the foundation. This called for professional help, so they contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
To stop the water from leaking in through the floor, we dug a trench around the inside perimeter of the floor, a few inches deep. We then laid 130 feet of WaterGuard piping within this trench, covering it over with loose rocks and fresh cement to hide it without hindering it. The WaterGuard pipes will capture moisture traveling through the concrete, guiding it away before it reaches the surface. We then laid BrightWall wall panels around the basement to collect and moisture coming through the walls. This collected moisture then slides down the BrightWall into the WaterGuard, where it is brought to the sump.
To remove all of the water being brought to the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump takes in the water from the WaterGuard and forces it up and out of the basement through a PVC discharge line. This device will never be overwhelmed by an ordinary storm. Able to move 2,650 gallons of water per hour, the SuperSump is one powerful machine. Following the PVC discharge line outside, there is one last important piece to install. Here, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece. This piece is built with holes, to allow blocked water to have an escape route. This prevents any clogged water to backup and overflow the pump.
Now this homeowner has a dry basement, as well as some good-looking walls! Thanks to the combination of the WaterGuard & BrightWall, this homeowner’s wet basement problems are a thing of the past!
