Bangor, ME Wet & Moldy Basement Repaired with WaterGuard
Challenge
A wet basement plagued this home in Bangor, ME. Maureen had been trying everything to keep it dry to no avail. She contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems and had the basement waterproofed the right way!
Solution
The majority of the moisture in the basement entered only during heavy rains. This water would build up in the surrounding soil and create pressure. It is this pressure that forces small amounts of water through the tiny cracks and holes in the foundation. Over time, this can create quite a damp basement. To stop the moisture in its tracks, we installed our WaterGuard piping system underneath the basement floor. These pipes line the perimeter, capturing the rainwater as it traverses the concrete. The water is then guided to the sump for evacuation.
To help the sump with the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump along with an UltraSump attachment. The SuperSump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour, which is more than enough power for the amount of moisture able to fit through the foundation. The UltraSump is a backup battery which keeps the SuperSump functioning in the event of a power outage. These two machines combined create an unbeatable force of water removal!
The water is removed through a PVC discharge line coming from the sump. This line carries all of the evacuated water, and is crucial in the process of keeping the basement dry. To prevent this line from becoming clogged and overflowing the sump, we installed an IceGuard pipe piece on the exterior of the home. If a blockage of ice or debris occurs in the pipe, this special piece will release the water from the pipe through holes in the sides. We finished this project with a LawnScape discharge point capping off this PVC line. The water exits into the ground here, a safe distance from the home.
Even in the heaviest rains, Maureen can sit back and relax as her brand-new basement systems handle the water. Never again will she need to remove water from her basement by hand.
