Lewiston, ME Wet Basement Repair
Challenge
A homeowner in Lewiston with a dirt basement floor experienced regular flooding during heavy rains. Needing the basement space to use for storage, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to have something done about it!
Solution
To begin, the basement received a new slab of cement to help keep water from entering so easily. This was also to provide a solid, flat flooring for the homeowner to utilize. But water can still enter through concrete, if there is enough rain. To combat this, we installed our specialized WaterGuard piping around the perimeter off the new floor while we poured it. These WaterGuard pipes can absorb water passing through the concrete, passing it off to the sump for removal.
To assist this removal process, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. Rainwater is no match for the SuperSump; It is capable of pushing over 2,600 gallons of water per hour out of the home through a PVC discharge line. To keep the SuperSump safe from backing up and overflowing, we attached an IceGuard pipe section to the discharge line outside the home. The IceGuard is constructed with holes in such a way that water will flow out through the end of the line. But in the event of a blockage lower in the line, water can escape through the sides of the IceGuard.
With all of these new systems in place and functioning in tandem, this homeowner can now use their basement however they please! The fear of water damage drained away along with the rain.
