Biddeford, ME Basement Waterproofed
Challenge
Living with a wet basement in a nightmare for any homeowner, and for Darlene in Biddeford, that nightmare was all too real! She was tired of the musty smell and damp conditions, so she contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems and had something done about it!
Solution
The main cause of the moisture problem was that rainwater could find its way into the basement through the foundation. Concrete has many tiny holes which under the right amount of pressure, water can slip right through. To prevent this in the future, we installed 70 feet of our WaterGuard piping around the perimeter of the floor. These pipes are buried within the concrete to conceal them while they function. They take in the moisture traveling through the floor, guiding it to the sump before it can reach the surface.
Within the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour from the basement through a PVC discharge line. This pumping power should be more than enough to keep Darlene’s basement moisture free! There was also a crack running down one of the walls, which needed to be addressed. This was covered with our three-step sealing process FlexiSpan. FlexiSpan not only locks out any moisture trying to slip through the crack, but it can bend and contort to the wall in the event of any shifting. This maintains a solid seal on the wall, never letting water through the crack again!
Finally, on the exterior of the home, we needed to add some attachments to the discharge line. We added an IceGuard piece to the upper end of the pipe. The IceGuard allows water to escape the sides of the pipe if the lower end becomes blocked by ice or other debris, thus preventing an overflow in the sump. The end of the discharge line was then capped off with a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water is finally released onto the ground a safe distance from the home where it will not be able to reach the basement again.
Now Darlene can utilize her basement however she pleases without that musty smell! Her moisture problems are a thing of the past!
