Ogunquit, ME - WaterGuard & SuperSump Installation
Challenge
A homeowner in Ogunquit who was suffering from a wet basement needed some extra storage space. But with the water gathering in the basement, the space was unusable! This homeowner then called TC Hafford Basement Systems and had something done about it.
Solution
Water was entering the basement directly through the foundation. During rain, the water pressure in the surrounding soil would become great enough to force moisture through tiny cracks and holes in the foundation. To stop this from happening, we buried 80 feet of WaterGuard piping around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. This piping can capture the moisture transitioning through the concrete, never allowing it to reach the surface. The water is then guided to the sump for evacuation.
The sump in the basement needed a pump to help it remove water. We installed a SuperSump sump pump to do just that! Capable of moving up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour, the SuperSump will keep this basement water free during any rain storm. The water is pushed out through a PVC discharge line. We then attached an UltraSump backup battery to the SuperSump. This battery allows the SuperSump 11,000 gallons of water pumping per charge, enough to outlast any storm that might have knocked out the power in the home.
To help the WaterGuard maintain a dry floor, we installed BrightWall tiles across the walls of the basement. These hard-plastic tiles not only look nice over the top of a concrete foundation, but they collect and guide any moisture on the walls down into the WaterGuard without being seen. Finally, outside the home, we attached an IceGuard to the discharge line coming from the sump. This piece is designed to allow water to exit the pipe if a blockage occurs lower down the line. This will help maintain a dry basement by preventing the sump pump from backing up and overflowing.
With a newly waterproofed basement, this homeowner can use the space however they like with no fear of water damage. Thanks to WaterGuard, their moisture issues are a thing of the past!
