Stonington, ME - WaterGuard & SuperSump Installation

Challenge

A homeowner looking to have their basement finished was hindered in their plans by a leaking foundation. Rainwater would regularly find its way into the space, and if this kept up, any furniture or carpeting installed by the homeowner would be ruined! They called TC Hafford Basement Systems and we took care of their problem.

Solution

The water entering through the foundation would be stopped by our WaterGuard piping system. We installed this by digging up a trench around the perimeter of the floor. The WaterGuard is then placed inside, and buried under another layer of cement. These pipes work passively while the water passes through the concrete. It will all gather within the pipes, collecting and flowing toward the sump within the basement without ever reaching the surface.

Within the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump pushes the water at a maximum rate of 2,650 gallons per hour out of the home through a PVC discharge line. More than enough to keep this basement water free. We then attached an UltraSump backup battery to the SuperSump. This backup batter hold enough charge for the SuperSump to pump 11,000 gallons of water before needing a recharge.

To finish this project, we needed to install a few more products. The final item we installed within the basement was a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This will maintain a dry atmosphere, displacing the moisture through the SuperSump. On the exterior of the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece to the discharge line coming from the sump. This piece has holes for continued water flow even if the lower end of the pipe becomes blocked by ice or a similar debris. The discharge line is finally capped off with a LawnScape, where the water is released into the soil a safe distance from the home.

Now this homeowner can finish their newly waterproofed basement without fear of water damage. Thanks to WaterGuard and SaniDry, their finished basement will remain dry for years to come!
