Wilton, ME - WaterGuard & SuperSump Installation
Challenge
Having been dealing with a flooding basement for months, this homeowner was tired of manually pumping out water. They soon sought out a way to fix their wet basement problem, with TC Hafford Basement Systems!
Solution
The basement in question was suffering from rain water being pushed in through the floor via a process where the water pressure in the soil is great enough to force the moisture through concrete. To stop this water in its tracks, we dug out a trench encircling the basement floor, and buried 99 feet of WaterGuard piping underneath fresh cement. The WaterGuard piping system is made up of specially designed pipes which capture water as it travels through the concrete, guiding it safely to the sump for evacuation. Within the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump can pump up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour, more than enough to keep out the rain water building up around this home.
The water is pushed out through a PVC discharge line, which needed a couple attachments before it was ready for use. First, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece to the discharge line. This piece is placed just outside the home, and serves as a fail safe for blockages lower in the pipe. If that were to happen, the water is able to escape through the sides of the IceGuard. Finally, on the end of the line, we installed a LawnScape exit point. This is where the water leaves the piping, a safe distance from the home where is can drain away without issue.
Now this homeowner has an automated system in place, allowing him to sit comfortably through rain storms without worrying about pumping water by hand. Thanks to WaterGuard, his moisture problems are no more!
