WaterGuard Piping Protects Denmark, ME Basement From Leakage
Challenge
A homeowner in Denmark, ME had a problem with their basement. Even with a concrete foundation, water would still leak in through the floor and gather in this basement. The homeowner needed this leakage to be stopped but was unsure how to solve the problem on their own. To get the space waterproofed properly, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on solving the problem this homeowner was experiencing. To stop the water from leaking in through the concrete, a shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the floor. Here, WaterGuard piping was laid down surrounding the basement floor where it was then buried beneath a fresh coat of concrete. Within the floor, the WaterGuard pipes will take in water attempting to leak up to the surface and guide it to the sump for removal before it can enter the interior of the basement.
To handle the water-removal, we installed a SmartSump sump pump in this basement floor. The SmartSump will take the water from the WaterGuard and force it out of the home through a PVC discharge line. To remove any moisture that had accumulated in the atmosphere of the basement we then installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This device will take in the surrounding air, separating the moisture from it and circulating it back into the basement. The water is then handed to the sump for removal. The SaniDry will keep the basement air dry and healthy.
Outside the home, we made two additions to the discharge line before we were finished waterproofing this basement. The first piece was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the pipe exits the home. This piece has special holes built into it which allow for trapped water to escape. This way, if ice or debris blocks the lower end of the line, the water will exit through the IceGuard before reaching the sump and causing an overflow. Finally, a LawnScape discharge point was added to the end of the line. This is where the water exits onto the ground a safe distance from the home where it will no longer be able to cause problems for the homeowner.
With their new waterproofing in place, this homeowner will no longer suffer from a flooding basement. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement floor dry for many years to come!
