Leaking Stoneham, ME Basement Sealed With FlexiSpan
Challenge
A homeowner in Stoneham, ME had begun to notice some cracks forming in the walls of her basement. These cracks were letting in water, which was not something the homeowner was going to tolerate. To have these cracks sealed, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
As soon as our crew arrived, their first order of business was to determine which crack would need what type of seal. The first crack was running behind several support boards. To seal this crack, the crack was first brushed with a coarse brush to remove any excess debris. A preliminary layer of sealant was then applied over the top of the crack. Plugs were placed along the crack as this layer was applied. After drying in place, the ends of the plugs were removed, and Polyurethane was injected into the crack. This injection fills the crack, hardening in place, completely locking moisture out of this entry point.
Moving on to the next crack, the crew also brushed this one down. For this crack, a different method was used because it was out in the open, away from supports. After applying an initial layer of sealant to this crack, a foam matting was place over the top, running the length of the crack. This matting will allow the seal to be flexible, and shift to conform to any changes in the cracks shape. Finally, a second layer of sealant was laid over the matting, finishing this seal. This structure over the crack is known as FlexiSpan, for its flexible nature.
With the two cracks sealed, this basement will no longer take on water through holes in the walls. This homeowner can now rest assured that their basement will remain dry.
