WaterGuard Protects North Waterboro, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
A homeowner in North Waterboro, ME was experiencing trouble keeping water out of their basement. Not knowing where the water was entering through, it was impossible for them to stop the leak on their own. They soon called the professionals to get the job done, TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Upon arrival, it was our first priority to identify the source of the moisture. This being the foundation itself, we were able to get to work right away. We began by digging out a shallow trench around the perimeter of the basement floor. We then inlaid WaterGuard piping, covering it over with a fresh layer of cement to seal it beneath the floor. The WaterGuard pipes, within the floor, will now capture any moisture traveling in from the surrounding soil. The trapped water is then guided through the pipes to the sump for removal.
To handle the removal of the water, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device contains a total of three pumps to keep this basement water-free. The first pumps is the primary, and will handle the majority of the water. If this pump fails for any reason, then the secondary pump will activate and continue the water removal process without allowing the water to flood the space. Finally, the third pump is a battery backup pump which will keep out water when the home loses power. This will ensure the space remains dry under any conditions. The water exiting the basement flows out through a PVC discharge line.
Outside the home, we made a few additions to this line to keep the water flowing year-round. The first was an IceGuard attachment placed just outside the home. This piece has holes built into it, which will not affect normal water flow. But in the event of a blockage in the line, the trapped water can exit through these holes before causing an overflow in the sump. The line was then ended with a LawnScape discharge point where the water exits onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer need to manually remove any water. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
