WaterGuard Keeps Center Lovell, ME Basement Water-Free
Challenge
A homeowner in Center Lovell, ME had been making plans to finish their basement to make it a usable space. This was impossible for them though, because the basement would take on water after every rainfall. To have the basement waterproofed, and to prepare it for finishing, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
After our crew arrived and investigated the space, the solution was clear. We began by digging a shallow trench around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. Because water had been leaking in directly through the foundation, we laid WaterGuard piping down within this trench and covered it over with cement to seal it in place. Once inside the floor, the WaterGuard will prevent any moisture leaking through from reaching the surface. This moisture will be captured within the WaterGuard piping, and be transported to the sump for removal.
Taking on the task of water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour, plenty of power to keep this basement water-free. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. To help keep the SuperSump operating under any conditions, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This battery will keep the SuperSump pumping for up to 11,000 gallons before requiring another charge. This will keep the basement dry even without power.
To help expediate the process of finishing the basement, we installed ThermalDry tile flooring across the floor. These tiles are insulated by foam. This keeps the hard-plastic surface separate from the cold temperatures of the concrete foundation. The insulation also allows the floor to have a gentle feeling when walking on. Finishing this project, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This will take the moisture out of the air of the basement, passing it to the sump for removal. The dried air is then circulated back into the basement.
This homeowner can now finish their basement without fearing any water damage. Their new basement system will ensure a dry, healthy atmosphere, safe for future use.
