WaterGuard Keeps Steep Falls, ME Basement Dry
Challenge
A homeowner in Steep Falls, ME was unimpressed with their basement situation. It was leaky, and would always have standing water in it after a rain fall. Tired of living with a damp basement, this homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the space sealed properly.
Solution
To keep this basement free of water, we first needed to identify where the water was entering. This helps us determine how to keep the space water-free. To waterproof this space, we needed to install our WaterGuard piping. We needed WaterGuard because the water was leaking in directly through the foundation itself. Theses pipes sit just beneath the surface of the floor, and capture moisture traveling through before it can reach the surface. This trapped water is then guided through the WaterGuard to the sump for removal.
Handling the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump, taking in water from the WaterGuard, can evacuate up to 2,650 gallons per hour. This much power will surely be enough to keep water out of this basement. The water is forced by the pump up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. With the ground water under control, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to prevent any mold growth and to better the air quality. The SaniDry takes in the moist air from around the space, and pulls the moisture out of it. This moisture is handed to the sump for removal while the dry air is circulated back into the basement.
Outside the home, we made to additions to the discharge line to help the sump function and to discharge the water. The first piece was the IceGuard pipe section. This segment of piping has built-in holes that do not affect the normal flowing water coming from the sump. But in the event of a blockage, and backed up water heading to overflow the sump escapes through these holes, preventing an overflow; Thus maintaining a dry basement floor. Finally, the LawnScape discharge point was added to the end of the line. This is the final stop for the water leaving the home, and it where it exits onto the ground.
With a proper basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer need to put up with damp basement conditions. Their now dry basement can be utilized for anything the homeowner pleases.
