Wet Basement In Denmark, ME Dried With WaterGuard
Challenge
A wet basement had been plaguing this Denmark, ME homeowner. Unable to stop the moisture on their own and tired of living under these conditions, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to have the space properly waterproofed.
Solution
To remedy this homeowners’ situation, we needed to stop water from entering through their foundation. Since this was an impossible task for the homeowner to achieve on their own, it was a good thing we here at TC Hafford have the right products to get the job done. We installed a WaterGuard piping system beneath the surface of the floor, running around the outside edge. This piping is covered over with a layer of cement to seal it beneath the floor. The WaterGuard pipes capture moisture as it travels through the foundation, stopping it before it can reach the surface to cause problems. After being collected, the water is transported to the sump for evacuation.
Because the WaterGuard was increasing the amount of water in the sump at any given time, the sump was going to need an upgrade. We installed a SuperSump sump pump to be this upgrade. The SuperSump is able to move up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour, plenty of power for keeping this basement water-free. The SuperSump then received a backup battery known as an UltraSump. The UltraSump keeps the SuperSump pumping even if the home is without power. This is an extremely helpful attachment for when a storm is intense enough to knock out power. The water is pumped up out of the home by this system through a PVC discharge line.
The discharge line carries the water a safe distance from the home, meaning the water will not be able to find its way back to the basement. Here is exits the line through a LawnScape discharge point. This water then drains away into the ground, never to cause problems for this homeowner again. On its way to this point, the water passes through a special segment of pipe called an IceGuard. The IceGuard does exactly what the name suggests, protecting from ice and other debris. If something were to clog the line, water can escape through holes in the sides of the IceGuard. This prevents a backup in the sump, leading to an overflow.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer suffer from a wet basement. They can now experience the utility of a dry basement thanks to WaterGuard.
