SuperSump Saves Parsonsfield, ME Basement From WaterDamage
Challenge
A flooding basement was nothing new for this homeowner in Parsonsfield, ME. Any decent rainfall would mean some manual water pumping for the homeowner. Tired of removing the water themselves, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to waterproof their basement.
Solution
The basement had a sump in place, but not an automatic pump to help remove the water. To keep the water from overloading the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will be able to keep back almost any storm. It can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour out of the home through a PVC discharge line. In order for the pump to handle water even in the most severe storms, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. The UltraSump gives the SuperSump an extra 11,000 gallons worth of pumping before requiring a charge. This combination should be able to handle any local rain storm.
Now that the water on the floor has been dealt with, there was still water in the air that needed addressing. To pull the moisture out of the air, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. The SaniDry takes in moist air, passing the water to the SuperSump, and pushes out dry air to circulate around the basement. This creates a cycle of moisture removal until the atmosphere is healthy and dry. Finally, to keep the system functioning properly under any conditions, we moved outside to make an addition to the discharge line. We attached an IceGuard to the piping just outside the home. This piece is built with holes to allow trapped water to escape the line. This prevents an overflow in the sump if the pipe becomes blocked.
Now this homeowner has an automated basement system to handle their basement water problems. No more manual pumping for this homeowner!
