WaterGuard Secures Hallowell, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner in Hallowell, ME was struggling to keep their basement water-free. After years of dealing with this moisture issue they finally decided to get professional help. They called TC Hafford Basement Systems and we were on the job!
Solution
After our team arrived at the home, the first order of business was identifying how to get the job done. We discovered that the moisture was entering through the foundation itself, and determined the best solution. To stop the water in its tracks, we dug out a shallow trench around the inside perimeter of the floor. We then laid down our WaterGuard piping system within this trench. This was then covered with a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard pipes work within the foundation to capture the moisture as it travels through. Stopping any water before it reaches the surface to make the basement wet.
The water captured by the WaterGuard is guided to the sump where we installed a SuperSump pump. The SuperSump will handle the removal of the water, forcing it out of the home through a PVC discharge line. No typical Maine storm will be able to overpower this sump, with an output of 2,650 gallons of water per hour. The water exiting the home through the discharge line passes through an IceGuard once outside. The IceGuard is in place to prevent an overflow in the sump by letting any trapped water escape through holes in its sides. The line was then ended with a LawnScape discharge point and we were finished! The LawnScape allows the water back out onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
This new basement system is sure to maintain a dry basement for this homeowner. No more manual water evacuation will be necessary in the future.
