Madison, NH Crawlspace Upgraded With a New Vapor Barrier
Challenge
A wet crawlspace was nothing new for this homeowner. But Shane was putting up with these damp conditions no more! After talking with TC Hafford Basement Systems, they knew they had found the right company to get the job done.
Solution
There were two steps to ridding this crawlspace of moisture. The first was taking the water within the space and giving it a place to go. In the lowest point of the crawlspace, we installed a SmartSump sump pump. This will collect the pooled-up water, and force it out through a PVC discharge line. Next, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier to take the moisture out of the air. This gathered moisture is then passed on to the SmartSump for removal.
The next step was to lay down a proper vapor barrier. We started the vapor barrier by laying a Drainage Matting on the floor of the crawlspace. This mat is in place to help hold back water, allowing it to either drain back into the soil, or reach the sump for evacuation. We then encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This thin plastic sheet covers all surface within the space, save for the ceiling. The CleanSpace locks out most water that would have otherwise found its way into the crawlspace.
Finally, we made a few additions to the discharge line, to help keep this crawlspace moisture free. Just outside the home, where the line exits, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece. This piece is specially built with holes to allow for trapped water to escape. This prevents the sump from overflowing if a blockage occurs in the pipe. The end of the line was then capped off with a LawnScape discharge point and we were done. This is where the water exits back out onto the ground.
Now Shane can rest assured his crawlspace will no longer become moist after a rainfall. The new vapor barrier will keep this crawlspace dry for years to come!
