WaterGuard keeps rainwater out of Somersworth, NH basement
Challenge
Rainwater would regularly find its way into this Somersworth, NH basement. The homeowner was sick of this, and had something done to stop it!
Solution
To keep the rainwater at bay, we needed to put a barrier in place. To act as this barrier, we inlayed our WaterGuard piping within the floor. These pipes are laid within a trench we created, and buried under loose rocks and cement to hide them without stopping their function. The WaterGuard will capture any moisture trying to sneak in through the foundation, never allowing it to reach the surface. The water is then guided away to the sump for removal.
To handle the removal of the water, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump is capable of moving 2,650 gallons of water per hour out of the home through the PVC discharge line. This amount of power should definitely be able to handle the rainwater coming in. To keep the sump operating under any conditions, we attached an UltraSump backup battery to it. The UltraSump will keep the sump pumping for up to 11,000 gallons of water if and when the power in the home goes out.
To complete this project, we had to add two attachments to the PVC discharge line coming from the home. Once the piping leaves the home, we appended an IceGuard pipe piece. This special piece will allow water to exit through holes in the side if a blockage occurs further down the pipe. This prevents the sump from overflowing. Finally, the line was then capped off with a LawnScape discharge point where the water is let out into the soil a safe distance from the home.
This homeowner can now rest assured any rainfall will remain outside their home. Never again will they need to put up with a wet basement while living in this home!
